Bake Sale
HIDEBoone Drug Crusaders will sponsor a bake sale at Boone Drug at Deerfield on February 13th and 14th from 8 am until 2 pm each day. Lots of homemade goodies will be available for sale at various prices. All proceeds will go to Relay For Life of Watauga County.
HIDE Hungry Hearts Art Auction Feb. 11 to benefit F.A.R.M. Cafe
Join us Saturday evening, Feb. 11, for the Hungry Hearts Art Auction sponsored by F.A.R.M. Cafe! You can bid on more than 25 8-inch wooden hearts painted/decorated by well-known area artists.
HIDEAll proceeds benefit F.A.R.M. Cafe, a non-profit community cafe opening on King Street in April.
Time: 6-7 p.m. (live auction begins at 6:20 p.m.)
Location: St. Luke’s Episcopal Church in Boone, behind Earth Fare
Cost: $5 donation at the door
What’s happening: A combination silent and live auction (Cullie Tarleton of Blowing Rock will lead the live auction.)
Beverages will be available for purchase. Light hors d’oeuvres will be served.

Wire-wrapping a three dimensional object
Learn how to create a wire cage or frame to suspend a free-form gemstone or other three-dimensional object.
HIDEClass fee of $25 includes instructions, hand outs, and use of tools/supplies. Participants are encouraged to bring their own personal item to be wrapped. Cost of materials will vary from $5 to $15 based on type of wire, amount of wire used, and choice of an item to wrap (if they do not have a personal selection). Are you an older adult with arthritis or do you have stiffness or pain in your lower back, hips, knees, ankles or feet? Are you at least 60 years old?
Not participating in exercise regularly, or have you NEVER exercised?
If so, join Fit and Strong!. Fit and Strong! is an award-winning, evidence-based physical activity/ behavior change program developed by the University of Illinois at Chicago, Center for Research on Health Aging (CRHA) proven to benefit arthritis symptoms and promote an active lifestyle. CRHA is partnering with the Lois E. Harrill Senior Center to offer Fit and Strong!.
HIDE!. Classes will be held for 8 weeks on Monday, Wednesday and Friday mornings from 10:30-12 beginning March 12.

HIDE Living Healthy Program to Begin March 12
Are you over the age of 60 and dealing with a chronic disease, such as asthma, diabetes, COPD, heart disease, arthritis, or fibromyalgia? If so, the Living Healthy program may be your answer for a better quality of life. The Living Healthy Program is a six week education group designed to help people like you learn how to live a healthier life with a chronic condition.
HIDEThis free program will be held at the High Country Council of Governments (New Market Blvd across from Boone United Methodist Church) on Mondays from 9:30a.m.-12p.m. beginning March 12. Please call Tabitha at the Project on Aging to register (265-8090). Limited space is available for people under the age of 60.
HIDE Extra Help for Prescription Drug Costs
Do you know someone who is on Medicare and needs assistance in paying for their prescription drugs? Medicare beneficiaries may be eligible for the federal Extra Help low income subsidy program if he/she has limited income and resources.
HIDEThe Extra Help program can increase cost savings by paying for all or part of the monthly premiums, annual deductibles and provide lower prescription co-payments under a Medicare prescription drug plan. To qualify for Extra Help, the monthly income must be limited to $1,361.25 for an individual ($1,838.75 for a married couple living together). Additionally, the total resources must be limited to $12,640 for an individual ($25,260 for a married couple living together). The resources do not include a primary residence or a vehicle. If you believe someone you know may qualify for the Extra Help program, please encourage them to apply on-line at www.socialsecurity.gov, or contact the Watauga County Project on Aging at 828-265-8090 and we may assist them with completing the on-line application process or send them a paper application.
